Young Marines focuses on character building, leadership, and teamwork, while promoting a healthy, drug free life style.
Old Colony Young Marines, our local Unit, was formed in April, 2004 for the youth living in the communities surrounding Plymouth, MA. We meet every Tuesday from 5:45 to 8:00pm at the Boys and Girls Club, 9 Resnick Road, Plymouth, MA. What a great over night trip on ML King weekend. Old Colony Young Marines of Plymouth stayed at the Club, had class time and range time for their Marksmanship program. Twenty five Young Marines attended and used the facility. This event was hosted by Standish Club members David Singer and Jennifer LaFlamme, who are Staff Members with the Unit. Jennifer is the Executive Officer and David is the Color Guard Director. Other adult Staff members were Jennifer Morris, Rob Stowe, and Frank Spano, all of Plymouth. This activity was supervised by the Young Marines own certified NRA instructors.
Time was spent with firearm safety instruction and range time for all. It was followed by a great meal, relaxing by the fire, a Pictionary game on the white board, and evening march through the Club trails.
Sunday was the pancake breakfast and a special guest speaker, Walter Potaznick. The class was an introduction to trap shooting, NRA video, and instruction on the range without firing. It was a cold, windy morning and we are looking forward to returning in the spring to use the trap field and shoot. Thanks to all at the Club for your support!
